With over 72% of the Earth’s surface covered by salt water, the Earth’s oceans are home to 230,000 known species! Some of them are absolutely fascinating.
The video below was captured on the coast of Baja California in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico. Brown pelicans reveal a birds eye view of the spectacular flying devil rays.
The strange black mass that is moving through the water is formed by some incredible creatures named the Mobula Munkiana, or Mobula Ray. Species of this genera are often collectively referred to as “devil rays”, “flying mobula” or simply “flying rays”, due to their propensity for breaching, sometimes in a spectacular manner. The devil fish can attain a disc width of up to 5.2 m (17 ft) and can probably weigh over a ton, second only to the Manta species in size. Despite their size, little is known about this genus. They have an unusual ability, they fly! You have to watch this amazing video!
